Description

Lantana urticoides

A spreading shrub, much branched from the ground upward, branches sometimes with prickles. Frequent in brushy places and in woodlands.

Water Use: Low

Light Requirement: Sun

Soil Moisture: Dry

Heat Tolerant: yes

Soil Description: Poor, well-drained soils.

Conditions Comments: Lantana provides summer color. In winter, some gardeners prune back lantana to keep the plants from getting too large. The stems become thorny especially with age, so caution is necessary when cutting them back. The blue-black fruit clusters are poisonous. Used as a low to medium, flowering ground cover for dry, exposed, poor sites. Crinkly leaves give off a sharp aroma when touched and they can cause a skin rash. Mature plants tend to form large mounds that may be separated into smaller plants in the winter.

About us

Arroyo Seco Micro-Farm & Nursery arose from a collective love and knowledge of plants. After starting a successful ecological landscaping company, our obsession with plants only grew, along with our garden….

Each season, we have expanded our growing space. Eventually we added a greenhouse and shade structure for even more plant propagation. As the garden grew, we started noticing more and more native wildlife emerging. We are a regular host for screech owls, Texas horned lizards, green anoles and native bees! We often see monarchs passing through in the Spring on their long journey North. We even hosted a family of Cooper’s Hawks who decided to pause their migration and nest in our garden for a couple of months. Pure central Texas magic!

Many of our family, friends, and clients began inquiring about our unique blend of native/pollinator plants, vegetables, and herbs. Not only do we enjoy food and medicine from our own garden, but we also provide habitat and food for native wildlife! We started installing more native landscapes and pollinator gardens, growing more plants, and gaining more knowledge. Arroyo Seco Micro-Farm & Nursery is the fruit of all this labor!

We are committed to providing a safe, easy, and reliable way for our central Austin neighbors to get a jump start on their own gardens each season. Make sure to check our online shop regularly for a continual rotation of seasonal plants and soil offerings!
